Interior Design Inspirations: The Paradiso Hotel, an Art Deco Haven – Part of the Concept Hotel Group, Paradiso Hotel opened earlier this year in Ibiza with its spirit rooted in 1970s Miami. It’s a festival of ice-cream coloured hues with a mainly blush pink interior set off with tonnes of banana yellow, cool mint and the faintest swirls of raspberry and lavender.
Designed by Madrid-based Italian firm Ilmiodesign, who took inspiration from shapes, styles and chromatics of Miami Modernism (MiMo) and the Memphis Group, the 16-room hotel bills itself as an “alternative atmosphere”. Celebrating the appeal of retro features, the hotel boasts chromatic tiled flooring, brightly rimmed mirrors, curved architecture and neon lighting. All rooms have balconies, Smeg fridges and Marshall radios, and quirky little extras such as a Rubik’s cube.
This style is evident in the guest rooms, which are decorated pink, yellow or green depending on which level they are situated. The suites vary in size – some offer lounge and kitchen areas populated with furniture in clashing colours, and others afforded access to balconies that continues the hues found inside.
The exuberant approach of Ilmiodesign and its explosion of shapes and colours are ideal for an Ibiza hotel, playing up to a hedonistic character of the buzzy Balearic island. And the hotel packs as much substance as it does style. It isn’t just about lazy days spent on a submerged sunbed by the (sometimes pink-toned) swimming pool, snapping Instastories of the candy-coloured universe. It’s a hub of contemporary art where local and international artists are celebrated.
Spanish artist Iñaki Domingo and photographer and filmmaker Diana Kunst lead the hotel’s programme, showcasing the work of over 60 international artists throughout the space. The two have also curated an art book library and host workshops with local artists.
Other features include an outdoor cinema, tattoo parlour and onsite milliner. A circular statement bar sits by the pool and resident DJs play an upbeat mix of house and ambient tunes throughout the day. For poolside snacks, Andy’s serves treats like nachos, gyozas and spring rolls, as well as healthier options such as Mediterranean bowls packed with trendy superfoods.
