The Advantages of LED Lighting in Children’s Bedrooms – You’ve got a handle on the aesthetics of your child’s space, you know what colours, window treatments, floor coverings- but how you light your room will dramatically change the whole tone. You want to make the jump into LED lights- trust me. LED lights have had a bad rap since they were introduced decades ago- but the growing pains are over and it’s time to take advantage of this great new technology in every room in your home, especially the kids’ rooms. New LED bulbs integrated fixtures have what you want in style and function, but perform the way twenty-first-century families need.
Value Above All
An LED bulb or fixture may look seem like an indulgence. At first glance, they seem more expensive than the old standby incandescent bulbs- who wants to spend more money than they need to? There is a reason why incandescent bulbs are inexpensive – old-fashioned bulbs are cheap because they are disposable. You can expect even a high-quality incandescent bulb to burn out in a matter of months with regular use, it’s just the way they’re made. You’ll need to replace one, cheap incandescent bulb 25 times before you need a new LED and you’ll pay for 10 times as much electricity the whole time you’re using it. Incandescent bulbs are no bargain.
Any Style, No Compromises
LED ceiling light fixtures come in every style and color. They do everything that traditional incandescent lights can do, but for longer and much more efficiently. They come in an array of light colors and brightness levels. Tools are available to help you get exactly what you want – and more precisely than any light fixtures you’ve ever bought before. Each LED bulb or fixture comes rated for their light temperature and for their brightness levels using the Lumen scale. For example, if you know you want the light in your child’s room to be warm, cozy and relaxing, you choose an LED with a light temperature of 2200K (warm, buttery yellow light) with a lumen output of 350 (similar to 40w brightness). If you want to light the study space, you may choose a light temperature of 3500K (a crisp, almost cool light) and a lumen output of 1000. For real flexibility, choose an LED with dimming capability.
New Lights or Making Old Lights New Again
While there are thousands of light fixtures available with integrated LEDs for entirely maintenance free lighting, you can transition any existing light fixture to LED just by swapping out the bulbs. By getting new LED bulbs, a whimsical heirloom chandelier from your childhood can simply be converted into a cost-effective, efficient light. They use so much less energy, you can safely put brighter bulbs into the previously dim old fixture. A fixture with a maximum wattage of 40w can never be any brighter with an incandescent bulb, but a dramatically brighter LED bulb may only use 20 watts (always check the bulb labels for energy use).
A Cooler, Safer Choice
LED lights provide a safer alternative to incandescent lights. LED light not only use much less energy, but they are also much cooler to the touch, no matter how long the lights have been switched on. Lamps may get knocked over, curious fingers are often just clever enough to find a way to touch virtually everything they absolutely should not be getting their hands on; it’s really nice to know that the kids aren’t going to burn their hands if they do accidentally touch them. If your kid is a hot sleeper, you know how difficult it is to control the room temperature and make sure it’s cool enough to sleep comfortably. Incandescent bulbs aren’t just hot when you touch them, but can make a room unbearable in the summer.
LED lights are the obvious choice for any room updates, but make even more sense when lighting kids spaces. They’re efficient, versatile, safer, and available in every look under the sun. LED lights can be as warm or as bright as you need, all while delivering incredibly cost-effective, virtually maintenance-free performance. With great advances in technology and so many options for function and style, LEDs are the best choice for home lighting you can make this century.
