As we go deeper and deeper into 2018, we ought to catch up with the design trends. And the kids’ bedrooms are no exception. There are brand new trends for the wee ones that we just can’t miss. From metallics to unicorns, Today, we will give you the 5 best 2018 trends for kids bedrooms. You don’t have to keep searching anymore.
To give your child’s bedroom a modern edge, the designer Kristy Whithers said 2018 will be all about metallics come January: ‘Warm metals like copper, brass and rose gold will take the throne this year,’ she stated. Invest in them via accessories or an attention-grabbing centrepiece, or even maybe on a good wallpaper.
It might be the influence of Netflix’s hugely popular series, The Crown, or it might be the fact that there is set to be a Royal wedding this year. But the regal fabric, velvet, is set to have a moment in the spotlight in 2018. ‘This season will command Royal treatment and its own definitive sense of chic,’ Kristy said. ‘Decorative velvet throws, quilts and cushions are a few of the simplest ways to bring a little grandeur to a kid’s bedroom.’ There’s plenty of choice regarding velvet in decor, as for example this amazing swing sofa, set to create an incredibly unique and fun design.
While you might want to add a few metallic or dusty pink overtones to your child’s bedroom palette, Kristy also said that 2018 will see a return to neutrals: ‘Simplicity and lightness are at the forefront of design right now,’ she said. ‘Natural and whitewash tones are going to be big, while blushes and neutral or stone colours are also great for a base to work around.’ According to the interior designer, if you incorporate these sorts of colours, not only will you be very much on trend, but ‘they will also give any room a soft and natural lift’. ‘Neutral colour palettes are always good ideas for kids’ rooms because you can subtly or dramatically change the room by adding pops of colour with playful accessories including bed linen, throws and linens,’ Kristy said.
Got a home that’s old school and a child’s bedroom that doesn’t quite fit with your aesthetic? Well, you’re in luck. 2018 will be ‘a throwback to the modernist trends of the 1950s’, according to Kristy – with ‘a nod to 1950s Hollywood glamour and the curved shape silhouettes’. Look for curved nursery chairs and accessories and add a vintage feel with old-fashioned wooden tables and chairs.
They’re a mainstay in kids’ bedrooms everywhere. And the trend for unicorns is going nowhere. ‘These mythical creatures evoke feelings of nostalgia and whimsy while offering up a vibrant colour palette that makes for gorgeous visuals,’ Kristy said. Alternatively, soft unicorn toys always look fabulous on nude bedding.
